Toro. Taberna La Taza.
The cheap price (a bottle of beer costs just € 1.20) and the views from its terrace of the Arco del Reloj, Plaza Mayor and Colegiata, make me usually stop by this central cafe when I pass through Toro. There have been countless sketches that I have drawn from here.
The residents of Toro are suspicious of the few immigrants who arrive there, most of them during the harvest season. Rosa, the owner of La Taza, arrived from Ecuador years ago, but she has not yet come to terms with the sober Castilian character of her parishioners and as she passes through the life of this Zamora town where she still feels trapped. She is the protagonist of this work.
El precio económico (Un botellín de cerveza cuesta apenas 1,20 €) y las vistas que tiene desde su terraza del Arco del Reloj, plaza Mayor y Colegiata, hace que suela recalar por este céntrico café cuando paso por Toro. Han sido innumerables los apuntes que desde aquí he tomado.
Los vecinos de Toro son recelosos de los pocos emigrantes que hasta allí llegan, la mayoría en época de vendimia. Rosa, la dueña de La Taza, llegó desde Ecuador hace ya años, pero aún no se ha llegado a hacer al sobrio carácter castellano de sus parroquianos y al discurrir de la vida de este pueblo zamorano donde todavía se siente atrapada. Ella es la protagonista de este trabajo.

Virtual Sketchwalks with USK Manila
"Virtual Encounters" to draw from a point in Google Street View in Phillipines arranged by Usk Manila during the world confinement situation since Covid-19, in April and May .

Virtual Sketchwalk in Valladolid Phillipines
During the world confinement situation since Covid-19, some very interesting artistic initiatives have emerged. Among the people we usually meet to draw, the idea of “virtual meetings” came up.
In coordination between the groups USK Manila (Philippines) and Valladolid Dibuja (Spain), we jointly organized and coordinated some "Virtual Encounters" to draw from a point in Google Street View.
After completing the work, we shared it on social networks.
On May 9, the virtual sketchwalk was held in Valladolid, Negros Occidental. An opportunity to "travel" and get to know this beautiful place in the Philippines.
The meeting was a success, we were more than 70 participants with more than 80 works. Mabuhay!

Durante la situación mundial de confinamiento a partir del Covid-19, han surgido algunas muy interesantes iniciativas artísticas. Entre la gente que quedábamos habitualmente para dibujar, surgió la idea de las “quedadas virtuales”.
En coordinación entre los grupos USK Manila ( Filipinas) y Valladolid Dibuja (España), organizamos y coordinamos conjuntamente unos “Encuentros Virtuales” para dibujar a partir de un punto en Google Street View.
Tras realizar los trabajos los compartimos en las redes.
El 9 de Mayo, el encuentro virtual se hizo en Valladolid, Negros Occidental. Una oportunidad para “viajar” y conocer este bello lugar de Filipinas.
El encuentro fue todo un éxito, fuimos más de 70 participantes con más de 80 trabajos.

Dominican sketches
For work reasons, I have hardly had time to draw lately, but now, seeing some precious works based on neighborhood voyeurism during the current collective confinement, I remembered this series that I worked on in 2011, 9 years ago.
These are quick sketches taken from my window, portraying the Dominican neighbors and accompanied by some of the expressions they use.
The window allows me to capture the reality that is down there, they are little more than spots, since from my point of view I can barely capture faces. The viewpoint is certainly unusual, is that which I have from the balcony of my house, this vision may seem to the vision of the theater from a box seat

Por motivos laborales, casi no he tenido tiempo para dibujar últimamente, pero ahora, viendo algunos preciosos trabajos basados en el vouyerismo vecinal durante el actual confinamiento colectivo,me acordé de esta serie en la que trabajé en 2011, hace 9 años.
Se trata de apuntes rápidos tomados desde mi ventana retratando a los vecinos dominicanos y acompañados de algunas de las expresiones que utilizan.
La ventana me permite captar la realidad que hay allá abajo, son poco más que manchas, ya que desde mi punto de vista apenas puedo captar las caras.
